Peoria Christian Reformed Church

What We Believe

The purpose of Peoria CRC is to glorify God through worship, discipleship, fellowship and witness.

Worship: As Reformed Christians, our worship is rooted in Scripture. In worship, the triune God calls his body to gather and delight in his Word, learning and remembering the nature and character of God and of the Christian life.  In worship we prioritize preaching, singing, praying, and giving.

Discipleship: A disciple is someone who knows Jesus, loves Jesus, and serves Jesus.  God has provided disciples the preaching of the Word, Baptism, and the Lord’s Supper as means of grace.  This enables us to take up our cross and to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior as we serve him in every square inch of our lives.  Disciples respond to Christ’s call to “Repent and believe” and to “Go and sin no more.”

Fellowship: As Christians, we are called to be in fellowship with God the Father, His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Once God has begun the “good work” of salvation in us, Christians must desire and nurture fellowship with other believers. True fellowship with God allows us to be “cleansed of our sins” and “walk in the light” of His word and love.

Witness: Following Jesus’ authority and command, we joyfully obey his call to Go, Preach the good news, Make Disciples, Baptize, and Teach obedience (Matthew 28:18-20 and Mark 16:15, abbreviated).  We are calling ourselves, and everyone, to our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.

 THE BIBLE TEACHES THAT

There is one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

The Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God.

God the Father is the creator, sustainer and provider of all life.

God the Son is Jesus Christ, who was born of a virgin, did miracles, redeemed us by his substitutionary and atoning death, was raised bodily from the dead, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will personally return to earth in power and glory.

God the Holy Spirit is personal, and he performs the miracle of new birth in an unbeliever, and indwells believers, enabling them to live a godly life. All people are created in the image of God, but because of sin they are alienated from God. By accepting God's gift of salvation through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone, people are made right with God.

The saved and the lost will be raised from the dead -- those who are saved unto eternal life, and those who are lost unto eternal damnation.

All believers are united in our Lord Jesus Christ and his church.
